How long before your pumps seize b/c of cal deposits?

Just curious how long other members pumps are lasting before having to be cleaned,

My tank

2 Seio 620's go about 1-2 months before the impeller seizes on the shaft.

Quiet one 4000, about 2-3 months

Maxi-jet 1200 6-8 months

AC500 6 months

I dose 1G of kalk and 1 cup of Randy's 2 part daily

Wondering if dosing large quantity all at once is cause pumps to seize sooner? Have been dosing this amount for over a year with no coral/fish problems. Just wondering about the pumps. Cleaning is easy using vineger, just wish I did not have to much.

Thanks,
Mike

The higher the alkaliniity the faster the calcium builds up. So I guess it is the balance between the corals having good growth and the pumps seizing.

I dont dose huge amounts of kalk, I guess 2.4 liters a day is pretty significant in a 40, but my pumps build up caclium deposits prettty quick too. I just clean everything pretty often to keep it in check.

One option to consider is having a replacement impeller available. We have replacement impellers for our 2 external pumps. This way when they are broken down for maintenance, the old impeller is soaked for an extended period and the pump goes back on line with the replacement impeller. The extra impellers also come in handy if they are the fan blade type and for whatever reason a blade breaks. This is the case with our blue line pump. Our coralvue's impeller does not have blades.

Well it seems I am not the only one. Like I mentioned it only takes an hour or so to free up the impeller in vineger, so not a big lose. Thanks guys.
