how common do fish jumped out of the tank

 my sixline wrasse jumped out of my tank today ive heard of some fish doing this but not wrasse he was in the tank over 2 years only half the top is coverd and whats messed up is my water level is inch 1/2 low so it had to jump even higher  found him dead on the floor

Depends on the fish as to how often this occurs... Personally, I've given up on 6 line wrasses, they always jumped out for me and either sunbathed on the center brace or went carpet surfing... Sorry to hear you had a similar experience, especially after taking precautions to discourage it...

Wrasses, its one of those things that you accept will happen or could happen eventually. Gobies will from time to time as well. Eggcrate helps, but its not 100%, I had a yellow coris jump through the openings and end up jerky.

Sorry to hear about your fish. I had a firefish jump, and I knew it could happen but it was still upsetting. Now I don't keep known jumpers, which would be wrasse and firefish. My top is open and I haven't had any other fish jump.

I had a six-line wrasse jump to its death as well, after about 18 very happy months :-( maybe it got curious one day...

It's hard to belive, but I had dwarf lionfish jump out and committ suicide, I guess he thought it was easyer to do that than to continue liveing??

I've had lots of strange things happen over the years. I use eggcrate for the past few and have only had one wrasse somehow make it through but over the years I've probably lost 6 or 7 fish that way from triggers to mandarin's. to bangaii cardinals all of which you wouldn't expect!

I highly recommend either a fully enclosed canaopy or eggcrate covering.

Had a Dusky Jawfish jump out of a bucket in the middle of the night...

Tank seal had busted, were keeping the fish in buckets while new seal cured.

I've had several fish jumpers, mostly Wrasses. The strangest carpet surfer I ever had was a Peacock Flounder. Found him the next day, stiff as a board.

I've lost several firefish to jumping. My 6 lines seem to have a fascination with the overflow and I have had several live in the overflow box and occasionally find their way into the sump.

They might make it in a big tank like that. I know Frank's got one that swims around in his open tank, I think it's a 180, had it for quite a while now. I would just get it and know that it might not make it forever. I wouldn't put an expensive wrasse in though. I would not bother with egg crate myself because I'm in and out of my tank so much it would just not be worth it.

I had a fire fish jump, and after he had been in the tank a while.

I suspect that my clown was harassing him though. She became unbearable after I got her an anemone!

Did you add any fish prior to the incident?

I had a chalk bass jump after 1 yr of being in my 40...
But, I added a anthias that was a bit of a bully a few weeks before he jumped.

I assume, he was being bullied, and was just trying to get away...

i have a sixline and a firefish for about a year now and no jumping from them but i had a orange spotted watchman turn into a crispy carpet critter. I was sad. I also had a cleaner goby that no kidding every day would go into the overflow.

I had a beautiful Midas Blenny jump out the very day I brought him home from the LFS. I got him at one of the fish store's annual sales so it took forever to get my number called and to wait in line to check out. I was so bummed.
