How bad/stressful is high salinity on corals?

I have a 14 gal current, 3 days ago it appeared to have a brownish 'film' across the top of the water.

i got the water tested, and other parameters were good, but salinity was 1.028 :(

how stressful was that on my corals?
I have ricordeas i just put in a few days before the 'issue' had symptoms, everyone seems a bit 'smaller than normal'.
i did a water change, and will keep testing.. but how long until my corals 'recover'...

any encouraging words would be helpful :) haha

1.028 is still in the 'natural' range for a lot of corals. Lower it slowly back down to 1.025-1.026 and you'll be good to go.

I had a friend who had some issues come up and had to take off for an extended period of time... When he returned, 1/2 his water had evaporated, and his salinity was over 1.040...

Everything was doing fine at that salinity, believe it or not...

He had to exit the hobby, so he gave me everything, I acclimated the livestock back to NSW as slowly as I could (Over about 12 hours), but it wasn't slow enough, I had about 50% loss during the acclimation, but the stuff that survived has done fine, in fact I've still got some of it today...

I think if I'd been able to acclimate back to NSW slower (Over a week or more) the attrition rate would have been MUCH lower...

tl;dr - Drop the salinity very slowly, and you should be fine...
