How are you testing for PO4?

Ditto Hanna. This test is prob Is easiest phos test to use

Ok, i might be the only one here that sees this but isnt phosphorus different from phosphate?

Additionally, from what I can tell there is a low and high range for both. Here is a link the the Hanna website:

I use the Hanna 713 Low Phosphate test kit
but if you buy it get the extra tests as it only comes with enough for a couple
the extra packets are around 8 for 25

I also still use the Salifert, but to be honest I don't check Po4 that much

Phosphorus is an atom, phosphate is an ion that consist of 1 phosphorus atom and 4 oxygen atoms. The hanna checkers are really measuring the same thing (inorganic phosphate) just stated in different units and with different ranges.

You can convert from phosphorus (ppb) to phosphate (ppm) by multiplying by 3.066E-3

A lot of people have the low range phosphate checker because it was the first to come out but I think the phosphorous ULR is the most appropriate checker for carbon dosed reef tanks, just because the range it provides. Also, if you're off the scale, you can always just dilute the sample.

I have the phosphate checker, but I don't think it's worth upgrading. In the end, you increase carbon dosage until algae is under control. There's not much need to measure PO4, because if too much is there, you'll know by looking at the tank.

If you don't already have a checker then get the ULR model unless you are running higher nutrients intentionally.

yes mukymuk said it much better then I could. You have to do a little math with that unit but it's supposed to be more accurate.
