How An Aquarium Is Made

I met the owner of DAS Aquariums yesterday at Petorama, and that prompted me to look around on the net a little bit. Apparently he owns Petorama, too. I found this video showing a little bit about how they build tanks at DAS. What I liked the best was at the beginning where they show how they take the big pieces of glass off of the rack and place it on the cutting table! I never would have believed it if I had not seen it!

I wonder how many times they broke some big sheets of glass? Sent from inside the shark tank! said:
I have been thinking that someone started using your picture, but you have changed your handle.

Does anyone here have a big piece of glass that we can try that with? How about you, Heath? Bam!

I have seen tanks built live at DSA as well as at Planet Aqauriums. Its amazing how the guys just score and snap huge pieces of glass.

Another interesting thing is that they won't let you see how they assemble the pieces.

I'm just thinking of the cost of of losing a sheet of 3/4" glass while dropping it like that! Ugh. -Ben- said:
The table itself actually has a bunch of holes in it to which compressed air flows through, so the glass doesn't actually hit the table but floats on a cushion of air. Pretty crazy to see in person.
