Hot heat sink...?

So I just put some LEDs on my gf FW and after only a couple hrs the heat sink was pretty warm. I've got a cpl pics of the setup. I realize the point is for it to absorb the heat, just not sure how warm it should be. Just curious of its normal or what with it being in a canopy.

If you cant leave your hand on there for 30sec its too hot. Otherwise it will feel warm but thats just it doing its job. You might see about getting a fan or 2 to circulate air around it.

Out of curiosity how are you securing the LEDs to the canopy? It looks like 2 pieces of rope stapled on. Over time it will deteriorate and potentially fall in. Plus you want at least some room above the fins to allow the air to circulate around them.

Alright, thanks guys. Yeah, mike, that's just a temporary layout, as she has a turtle pad taking up half the top of the tank so I wasn't sure if actually centering it or moving it over some would give me the most light coverage.

Do you have any air moving through the canopy at all? Any fixtures I build fanless are best used in open top designs, or canopies that already have airflow managed with a fan or 2.
