Holy popping palys, Batman!

Ok, so yesterday afternoon I look at one of the colonies of my pink palys and it looks like it's either melted on the top part of like someone in the tank has taken a liking to palys. But the other two colonies of the same kind look fine.

Later in the day, I'm looking at the sand bed and notice that I've got pink paly polyps that have popped themselves off EVERYWHERE! Did they just decide they were out of room and needed to try to be on every rock in the tank?

Anyone ever had this happen before? I had almost gotten all of the loose polyps mounted and off to new homes, and now THIS!

i've seen some of my zoos "detach" to nearby spots almost like they got up and moved, and other polyps which just drift to the sandbed. i'm not sure whether they will "loosen" on purpose as a means of spreading or as a sign of unhappiness, or whether some critter like a snail or crab crawls on them which in turns causes them to detach.
