hole in 30 gallon cube???

ok, my question is what is this drilled hole's purpose?

Please advise because I FINALLY got my wet/dry filter---I know--I rather like them though and haven't had any nitrate problems with the 110 gallon---for the 30 gallon cube, but I have no idea what the hole is for...is it for the return???

its for your drain so the tank can have a sump/fuge. you would simply run your return lines over the back. having an external overflow box looks tacky to most, but a hole with a simple strainer is more pleasing to the eye. simple over the back return lines dont take up a lot of space, so thats no big deal. i have done 2 of my tanks like this, drains are drilled, returns are over the back. its just an easy, quick way to have a reef ready tank.

what you need is a 90 and a strainer facing the surface of the water. then out the back put a T vertically and cap off the top and drain using the bottomm. in the cap drill a small hole for air to escape and you are good to go :)

Look at this like; this is the one I bought and you can see how the setup looks
