HIGH PH

Has anyone ever seen their PH shoot through the roof after using red slime remover? I have used Chemi Clean in the past and never had this issue.

I fired up my skimmer after being off for 4 days for treatment and my PH was at 8.0 then with in a few hours 8.5

I'd say if you're showing a pH of 5.5 then you need to retest since that would almost certainly indicate a testing error. I doubt anything would be alive in your tank with that low a pH.

I'd say going from 8.0 to 5.5 would be more like "dropping through the floor" instead of "shooting through the roof".

sorry FAT finger 8.5 is the reading

Well I recalibrated the PH meter and was off a little by one.

SO NOW IM AT 8.6

Lights are off and skimmer is off

Do you dose kalkwasser in your topoff?

If so, turning the skimmer on would lower the volume, and ATO would kick on, dumping kalk into the tank, which would cause the ph to jump up.

yea ashlar that was it. I had a stupid MINUTE

thats what happens when your skimmer goes NUTS off using the redslime remover.

Thank god Ive got a PH METER :D

just did a water change and im back down to 8.4

I will kick the reactor back in when it hits 8.2
