High flow and Percula Clowns

Would you guys agree that Percula Clownfish don't fare well in high flow systems? I purchased one and he seems not able to get around well in the tank due to the flow.

I think they are fine. They just take a bit to get used to the flow. My Perc's looked like they were struggling when I first got them but can now swim with ease.

High Flow ..... A stream that exceeds the common degree or measure, strong, intense.

Thanks for the info M@! I hope mine gets used to it as well. He is staying behind the powerheads most of the time right now.

I have 4 mp40's at about 80% and 2 tunze 6055 in my 210 and I have a pair that do just fine. They lounge in the nem all day and move about just fine when it's time to eat.

Should be fine. I've seen them move through my reef with two MP60s going. They swim like Orcas to me, not as easy as a Butterfly or a Hippo tang of course.

Hey ReefNut, I think it is fairly common for clowns to behave the way you described. Staying behind powerheads, hovering in the corners, etc, when first introduced into a new tank. I have read other posts where someone was asking why their new clown was acting odd, scared, or otherwise just uncomfortable. Additionally, we just moved a female clown to a different tank yesterday and she is doing that same thing. She came out of a tank with high flow and went into a tank with low flow and so far has been hanging out behind a powerhead. I understand why that coupled with their "unique" swimming style would make it appear they have a difficult time dealing with flow. They look like they are constantly swimming against a current when even in a very calm tank.

I was just worried that it was not going to be able to get about the tank. It really seems to struggle when it moves from behind the powerheads. It's been a while since I kept one and I always saw them swimming about constantly when I had them previously. Wes, I guess if they are fine with the amount of flow you have, mine should be just fine !! I have a Rose nem in there so hopefully he finds his way to it and hosts. I hate to see my fish uncomfortable or behaving oddly, so it's good to know it's just becoming accustomed to its new enviroment and has nothing to do with flow.. Thanks for the replies.

I guess I didn't use my quotes well. I meant "high" flow. I understand the meaning of flow, but when you're vague on what type of and how much flow you have, it's real hard to help you.

Its funny you ask a question and then reply with that type of remark when all I'm tyring to do is help you and need more information.

Josh, I though it was a simple question and self explanatory. Didn't see the need for detail. I thought you were pretty funny by asking "define high flow", so I answered !! Lighten up, it was a joke !!
