Here's my sump, finally done!

Thought I'd post some pictures, I just finished it on Sunday night and installed the eggcrate pieces yesterday. The siliconing is a bit messy but it was my first time so I'm not too disappointed with it. It's nothing a razorblade can't fix anyway.

It dosen't have to be pretty it just has to work. IMO

On the selicone I used tape on the side and peeled off to give it a clean look. HTH

that is what the blue painter's tape was for but i couldn't get it to stick well. Brian, yes that top part is just set on there for the spiral fluorescent light that will sit over the refugium section. I didn't use ties on that part.

yes it's a 20 high, obviously a 20 long would be better but I didn't have the 30 inches of length needed to accommodate it in the stand.

from that first picture, it looks like you took alot of smoke breaks during your build time

it looks great!

Your reply should have been "That's my 28 year collection, thank you very much!"

Did you check the flow of it? It looks like you have plenty of space in case of pump failure but I was wondering about microbubbles in the return section with just a direct flow. I would guess if the water was high enough on that side it wouldnt matter though. How many inches up from the bottom where you planning on keeping the return at? The egg crate looks cool. :D

Mine is the same thing. But I use the middle part for the return and the left side for the fuge.

To get water to the fuge I use a T off the return pump with a ball valve.
This way I can slowly let water into the fuge so macro algae doesn't blow around and it gets longer contact time with the water.

Keep in mind the middle section fuge will be taking water as fast as your pumping it up.

And if you haven't put it in use yet..
you might want to replace your bubble trap(tower) with plexiglas or acrylic. Make it higher than the triple bubble walls. And at the bottom 2 inches make it egg crate. Then fill it with rocks.

This way the bubbles would have to make it all the way down to the bottom 2 inches of the bubble tower past all those rocks.

The way it is now, the bubbles will flow right out of that eggcrate bubble tower.

Ben if you dont mind me asking what apartments you live at because by the look of the wall color and the railing I think you live in the same ones as my girlfriend and if thats the case I could help you out with the bubble tower if needed cause I am actually putting together a sump right now.

Oh ok well you live across he street from her. She is in La Colina so if you ever need help with anything of want to stop by and chat fish just let me know and we can get together.
