************HELP*************

I went out of town for two days. During this time I had somebody to look over my tank. I had noticed that some of my corals were not looking so good before I left.

I have a rather large peice of frog spawn. When I left they looked better than they ever had. But when I came home this is what they looked like. ( see pic below ) Are they dead? I just can't believe that they would die in two days like that.

Please give your advise as to what you think might have gone wrong and if there is anything that I can go to fix them. You can see on the back row that one of the corals are trying to come out. I just don't understand.

Thanks
Chimene Linder

What are your water parameters? And did you check for heat?

It looks like they are mostly gone. I have had a Kava come back, but the ends of the polyps were tucked into the stalk. If you see absolutly nothing but white, then it really is gone, save the ones you can still see "flesh" on.

Usually, it's something in the water that causes the frogspawn to "melt".

I have a feeling the tank overheated. For it to eject or melt off all the heads so quickly, it had to be that unless you had a fish that suddenly ate it.

Have you checked all the water parameters yet to see if anything is off?

I hate to hear all your hard work and it's happening agian. It was hot these last few days and the tank may have over heated. T he last time I spoke to your husband he told me you guys were having some humidity problems.

There is still some tissue on that candy cane! If you can't rehabilitate it, see if someone you know can take it and bring it back. Don't throw it away just yet.

Dude,

Seem like something always goes wrong in your tank

I would have to agreed with everyone on the heat issue. Once your tank get up to 84 or more, they are more likely to melt away if you don't hurry up and get the temps down. I had that happen once and only lost one head. Sorry for your loss

I've been away with a new job, but to answer all the questions my water is in good condition. I even had everything tested. The only thing wrong was the ph was very low. I've buffered and fixed that. Anyway, could my water temp being to low be the problem. My heater broke and my water has been down to 69* and gets up to about 75*. I've ordered a heater next day air on Thursday morning to make up for the one I purchased from a reefer from the club that was broke (no name) Anyway my heater didn't come in on friday. Looks like my fish will be cold until Monday.

Are you running a chiller?

I find it hard to believe that you're needing a heater this time of year. You do live in Texas don't you? :D

No chiller. I have a air vent in the closet pointed right at the tank to keep the tank cool. I have it closed at the moment.

also the reason I would never need a chiller is my last months elec. bill was 600.00 w/2 units. She asked me to guess what the new bill was and I said i didn't even want to know. She's going thru the women phase now. So its always freezing in my house.

That is pretty darn cold. Hopefully you can get it up to 76F minimum. I keep my tank between 79 and 81F daily.

After all this time I kinda feel stupid. I was watching the Nascar race and looked over at my tank and ask myself? Could the T-Stat be what is wrong with the tank? I guess I never thought it would fail. After going to Wal-Mart and paying 1.84 for a float thermometer it was reading 88* and that was with 4 hours of light left for the day and my vent closed off.

After opening the vent to the closet and shutting the lights off the tank has dropped about 3*
