help with water quality

I am making some water with a RO/DI unit and the tds meter say 0-1 when it is in the first bucket straight from source. Then when I pump it to another mixing bucket it reads 20-30ppm. I have wiped the bucket down a lot and rinsed it with some ro/di water and it still reads high as soon as i the water to the mixing bucket. Is it picking up stuff in the line and pump? Is this normal or should it be 0-1 when I mix it?

I just measured the TDS in my water storage jugs and it measured 0 as it does when coming out of the filter. I also measured the TDS in my salt mixing trash can and it measured 7 but that is due to residuals from just wiping it down. The 20 to 30 that you are measuring seem a little high but we need more input from others to see where theirs is running. Remember that RO/DI water is hungry and wants to absorb minerals etc. to become balanced again. You must be picking up something in your storage or somewhere else in the water path.

I would be interesting if others would post their readings out of the RO/DI filter and then from the jugs that they store their water in should also include their salt mixing jugs so that we can see what the average readings are.

well it just for the water that will cure my live rock. I have plenty of water changes to figure it out. It will be awhile before I get livestock.

could be the plastic from the bucket is leeching out solids.

keep in mind a tds meter uses electrical conductivity to test the level of solids in the water so your results may vary.

The water coming out of my DI is 0 to 1. The water in my Ozarka jugs is 1, always. (My meter rarely ever reads 0, but it is old)

I don't even test TDS in my mixing barrels. At that point, it isn't pure because it is mixed.

Testing TDS should always be in a clean cup or glass, after letting it run for about 1 minute first.
