I live in Carrollton but don't really know anything about the care and feeding of eels. Where are you located? said:
hey david
i just want to say thanks to you and ur wife for inviting me into your home and sharing your success with me and mine. well i just open the bag and let the calurpa loose to its new home and set my sump light to 24hrs. I also went to DNA and met a guy there that had a nice mag9.5 i bought so my skimmer and return are up and running again. (at the same time) :D I didnt find those hoses for the RO filter but I will find some somewhere soon. I get tired of buying water. Well thats again and I'll keep you posted on how its doing.

Also I bought some test tubes from DNA and run all my test are below

ph:8.2
phosphate:0.25
nitrate: not sure cant find my chart but its not dark purple
Kh: bout 9 drops.

Eddie,

We enjoyed meeting you and your family yesterday as well. You might try calling some LFS to see if any of them have the tubing for your RO unit. I would start with Bill over at Neptune's. You also may want to post in the Buy/Trade forum for the tubing. Keep testing your water and feel free to contact the boards anytime you have a question as we are here to help.

What test kits (brand name) are you using?

One last thing I going to move this thread to the since it is not an emergency.

Hey david it fine to move it but i dont think i'm in the emergency stage n e more.(i dont think i ever was i just panicd). Also the test kit is made by aquarium pharmacuticals or atleast im close. but its the master test kit. it has calcium, nitrate, phosphate, and carbonate hardness. I had to buy the one for ph. now i thought i had one for the nitrite somewhere but cant find it now.

That's great. You should target the following readings for your tank:

Ca 400 - 450 ppm
Alk 7 - DKH
Mag 1200 or higher (should be at least 3 times the Ca level.
pH 8.0 - 8.3 measured mid day after the lights have been on.
Phosphate 0.0
Nitrate 0.0

When you get your RO unit working you should get a TDS meter. If I understand what you said you yesterday you only have a RO filter. I would get try and get at least a 4 stage unit as you will get much better results. The target TDS here is 0.0 ppm but only with a 4 stage. With just a RO unit you will be getting 10 ppm or higher. You can keep a lookout on the boards for a RO/DI.

ok now how do i tend to know the ppm on the Ca. is there a chart that i should have or something close.
Also Alk 7 - DKH = this is my carbonate hardness rite
Mag 1200 or higher= is this magnesium and how do i test for this
now the phosphate are close and im also running phosphate remover in the sump and the nitrates are getting help also from the calupra i just put in.

MAYBE SOMEONE SHOULD START A HOW - TO INDEX ON THESE BOARDS FOR NOOBS AND TESTING.

Your test kit should have the measurements listed on a chart. For Calcium, I've been using Salifert for years, and it lists the results in PPM.

Magnesium is an additive. You can make your own, buy a kit from an e-tailer, or buy bottled Mg from your LFS. It takes a lot to bring it up a little. You need to test for Mg before you dose for it, so you can track the numbers accordingly. I use the Salifert Mg kit.

now exactly what is the Mg used for in the tank. and i went through a move a lil while back and havent found my chart for Ca or KH(but i think around 7-9drops is safe). So i've been trying to find a picture of the chart here and the aquatics sites but havent found one yet.

Magnesium is part of the ionic balance needed in our tanks. Here's the article to read on why:

A Simplified Guide to the Relationship Between Calcium, Alkalinity, Magnesium and pH
http://www.reefkeeping.com/issues/2006-06/rhf/index.php

For Alkalinity, some kits like Tropic Marin count drops for each dKH. So 9 drop would equal 9 dKH, which is in range (8 to 11 dKH) of what we want.
Calcium, that's different and you'll have to find the correct information, or buy a new kit.
