Help with Nano tank Design

I want to make a nano tank but I’m not sure if my design will work. I want to avoid the use of a sump and put everything behind the tank similar to the way the JBJ Nano tanks are designed. The overall size will be 42” L x 22” W x 15” H. The actual display tank will be 42” L x 17”W x 15”H. Will something like this work?
 
I want to make sure I understand your drawing. Is the area marked "refugium" the actual display area for the tank?
Or is the drawing just showing the filtration area of the tank?
