Help please.....Return Jet

Hi, I will admit, I'm fairly new here.... I've had some issues with my return jets. I have a RR tank (140g) with a left and right return jet. I've struggled with getting good pressure out of both at the same time. Had one side with light pressure and took out the pump, cleaned it and put it back in..... I thought I solved the problem but now the other side has light pressure. The guy at the LFS sold me a new pump thinking that would solve it - I'm not sure that's my issue as it's twice as big and has the same issue. So, what else could it be? I'm stumped. Isn't it supposed to be a straight line from the pump to the jet? Maybe stuff is clogging it up..... if so how do I clean it? Maybe one isn't suppose to have the same pressure..... it doesn't appear to have a valve at the T where the left and right meet just a black T connector......Oh, please help.

Thanks.

Hi,
If it were always on one side I would think obstruction/build-up issue but thats not the case. Not sure how a new pump would correct that however installing a ball valve on each section feeding the return's will allow you to balance the output to each side. The unequal pressure shouldn't really be an issue as the return's should only be for returning the water back to the tank, and not to generate massive in-tank flow, powerheads are better for that task. The larger return pump could actually create more issues in regards to the flow through the sump/fuge area.
Cheers,

I can't picture how the flow switched unless there is some blockage that moved to the other return line when you replaced the pump.
