Help my Xenia

I obtained a frag of Xenia more than 2 months ago from a member here. It has done well until last night. 2 stalks of the three weren't pulsing and were in a tight ball.

I did a water change this morning (only about 7%, 2 gallons in a 30 gallon tank, all I had mixed at the time.

My readings are:

Ammonia -0
Nitrite -0
Nitrate- 0
Alkalinity -9
PH (tonight after lights on all day) 8.3
SG: 1.025

I think that's all I test for. I've had no temperature fluctuations. The only think added to the tank in the past week or so is a couple of zoo frags and they are no where near the xenia.

I had hoped after the water change that when I got home tonight all the stalks would be back to normal, not so - the third stalk is actually looking wilty. My experience is that once xenia starts to wilt it's deteriotation is very rapid. I'm mixing more water for another water change tomorrow.

What else can I do? I've heard iodine is good for Xenia, should I buy an Iodine supplement of some kind? I figure it has got to be something more than this since the whole coral is obviously in some kind of stress, and so suddenly.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

how long did you let you water mix? I had xenia do the same thing when I first got into my reef. I was mixing the salt untill the water was clear and then doing a change after letting it sit for maybe a couple of hours. After some advise from the LFS I started to let the water mix with a pump for at least 24hrs and it fixed the problem. As my tank has become more established I dont think I could kill my xenia, it is probly the most hardy coral I have and wont quit growing.

I think I have discovered the cause - I had a mushroom I was trying to afix to rock and it released a bunch of slime. I bet the sliming put the xenia into distress.

I did another water change this am (3 gallons, 10%). Xenia is hanging in, no better no worse shape. How often can I do water changes without causing additional stress? I do age the water before adding (hence the small changes at a time - I'm only using a 5 gallon bucket and ran out of RO water this am).

Would moving the xenia to another tank at this point cause it's demise since it's already in a stressed state?

Tesfeld - it looks like I may need to pay you a visit!
