Help me spend $500

Im looking for a t5 setup that will fit in a canopy of a 75 gallon. only have about 15" max width...would like the most bulbs as possible....i dont know if six bulbs will fit with all the websites stating different sizes for the same retro's and fixtures. Hate to buy and it wont fit. My tank has the offset megaflow over flow in the back. Cant remember waht tank brand that is.

The retros I bought from reefgeek are 2.5" wide each so you could fit 6 t5s in there that way. Probably be a great amount of light for that 75! What are you keeping, SPS? If so u may need it.

no sps, mostly lps....mixed with zoa's some ric's,,,,i do want enough bulb mix to have great colors for balance and pop. You talking about the "LET" retro's

In that case I would just go with 4 T5's and use the rest of the money to buy a controller and a RODI unit if you don't have one. [smilie=smile.gif]

I did get the 4 bulb LET kit and already had an Icecap 660 to use. I got two ATI Blue Plus, one actinic, and one geisseman mid-day (~6500K). Here is a crappy iphone pic. Keep in mind that my tank is a 140 and is 28" deep. I want to add two more bulbs to give it a little more blue - i was thinking of getting a actinic+ and replacing the 6500K to see what happened.

will the color still be good with just 4 bulbs? I dont want to limit my bulbs to four if i cant get most of the colors to show or looked washed out while others are good. I hope that made sense. I do have a ro/di already but not a controller. I have looked at them but havent figured out why i would need one. Everything i have thats needs automating is already done. Mostly just lights and fans and auto-topoff...my setup it pretty simple...still a ton of wires though. I dont have a wave maker so thats one thing i dont have.

MAybe takeout the mid day bulb and add a aquablue special...well that is a pretty deep tank isnt it. You probably need two more bulbs come to think of it. So are those pretty nice lights then? The retro you have.

Do you know of a good bulb combo for a 4 bulb setup? Im looking for around 14k color if possible. Also is overdriving the lamps with and icecap ballast worth it?..is it almost as strong as a 6 bulb regular ballast? I know they say you need cooling fans blowing on the lamp somewhere...hype or does it work and long term do bulbs just wear out faster. So why i was thinking maybe Just go regular 4 bulb or 6? I really just want it to look good is all. Bright but not all washed out colors on some fish and corals and not others. I have also thought about doing a diy led setup. I was thinking less cost due to no bulb replacements and maybe less energy and heat Would be a bonus for me becuase im always thinking....how old are my bulbs [smilie=wink.gif] and i think the shimmer looks cool. I will think about it for weeks maybe longer even though i could buy them now. One bad thing about being a gemini

I do like the T5's I have. One big plus is that I dont have any heat issues. My tank rarely gets to 79°. I do have fans blowing on the bulbs. I would like to buy some of technosteves diy led setups to fit between my bulbs. I think that it would add some great shimmer and more blue light!

I thought about the leds, but now im thinking wow thats alot of wires and stuff to hide and rig up. I dont really have much room left under my stand for anything else. The sump and auto-topoff water container and other equipment is taking it all up. I guess im just going to go with the T5's for now...i do like the shimmer of the leds though

I wanna try and design the led strip to take up the same amount of room as 1 T5 light. I have room for adding three to my setup. I'm thinking it won't have any wires out of that unit except the power wire, but I could just not understand what I am doing!! I need to get on his site and do a quote.

Look at the photos of his test tank on his site...There are pictures there that show you how it looks and pictures make more sense to me when i can see what it looks like. Im just not sure if i have the room for the power supply and driver box and i want it to be hidden and not out in the open and my stand is full already.

Ok i went over budget by about $500...crazy i know. I hope i like them. Reef brite leds. Tired of messing with wires and end caps and bulbs. Hopefully it will be worth it long term. If not expensive new garage lights [smilie=lol.gif]

I will try to post a pic when i get them all setup. I think they hard to take pics of to get an accurate color representation. I will do my best

Im going to run 4-48" reef brite strips one white, one blue and two 50/50s in a canopy, yes. I will have to wait and see how it works out

"Update"
I ended up going with three reef brite led strips....two blue and one all white , 72 leds total and its perfect for my setup.
