Help Identifying Fish From Galveston

I was hoping that someone out there could help me identify this fish that my daughter and her friend caught in their seine net tonight. It is the cutest fish and I can't tell what it is. Could be a damsel or perhaps an angel? I'm not sure, but we're trying to decide if we should try and bring it home or leave it in the gulf. They also caught 2 pipefish tonight and one is in one of the pictures. You'll also see another little dark dot, it's another fish that we don't know what it is. Your help is greatly appreciated.

thanks
Sebrina

Need a bit better pic of the coloration. The dorasl fins though suggest a very very juvenile Filefish. IF that is the case, he should be left, as they get HUGE man.

I can look it up with a better pic.

Oh definitely.. we caught 10-20 of them out in the sargassum mats, but I know folks also caught them in the marshy areas.

Wow! Thats exciting, do you know what species of pipefish they are? I would love 2 or 3 of them for my 150 gallon!

Hi im sgoldingers daughter but I got a closer look at the 'dot', thats what we named him. His tail is clear and he is black but has a white line across his forhead. The bigger one is hard to get a look at because it seems it may have something on it. But it looks brown and looks closley related to a Damsel, but ther are not that many pictures of juvinel damsels out there.

My mom said if we can get them back safely and if we can get some more then we woulde trade you some. She is looking for some coral to trade things for.

Ok, I have taken some new pics but haven't downloaded them yet from my camera. I was able to enlarge the ones I took last night. I'm going to post those. We got some more fish today, all really small, but we are really excited about the pipefish. We're going to head back out tomorrow to see if we can get some more. We were also able to get some gobies, about 6 or 7 of those today. We still haven't made it to the jetty for the peppermint shrimp, but have managed to round up some ghost shrimp from the marshes. I'll try to post more pics tomorrow.

Thanks
Sebrina

Oh ya, that is defineatly a Grouper youngin'. Might want to put that back, unless you've got a REALLY big tank and don't mind it eating your other fish as it grows.

Its become a family event, and i am now down here with my mother who was saying "its got to go back" since another one of the fish disappeared, although my father is still trying to figure out why she doesnt want to keep it?

Thanks for identifing the fish for us! We may have more fish later.
