Help ASAP ---- he didn't make it

my flasher wrasse is on the home stretch. he's laying on the sand bed and every now and then he jolts around. he's not gasping and he's been eating great...its only been the last couple hours or so (i've been doing homework in the other room).

Is there anything I can do, I don't have a qt set up. anyone near that can help even though its late???

*edit* Nevermind, he's gone  .

What would cause a fish to just up and die? He had no external defects and was eating great. I guess this is an expensive lesson on why to qt.

Thanks...Joe

Joe. Sorry for your loss. Sometimes fish just die, even when we are doing everything right. However, a QT is a step in the right direction.

...its just frustrating, all of my other fish are 6-7 months old with no problems, but any new fish die within 3 weeks. I'm just not gonna buy new fish for a while. I'm moving the tank in may and i'm gonna qt all of the fish. Or should I do it sooner?

Thanks...Joe

It's possible your current fish have adapted to your current water parameters and it is stressful for any new fish you add to your tank. When was the last time you have done any water testing?
PH
Salinity
Ammonia
Nitrates / Nitrites
Water Changes

I did a water change two days ago and water testing earlier in the week. I took off my HOB filter (whisper 60) about a week and a half ago. I lowered the flow slowly. I then tested the water everyday because I figured ammonia would go up, which it did. So I kept ammonia in check with amquel until it zeroed out. I guess that might have been stressful for the fish, but the others didn't seem to mind. Before I got the wrasse I took the water to the fish gallery and it tested perfect.
