Hello

[Hello all

I have been reading the forums for a bit now while refurbishing my tank. I just want to say thanks for all the great information you all share. It has sure helped alot.
I had my 75 Gal up for a couple of years in Florida, mainly just FOWLR with a couple of corals and an Anemone. I was basically learning as I go with help from my roomates and LFS.
About 3 years ago I had to break it down to move to Arizona. It's amazing how attached you get to a fish/coral that you've had from the beginning and even hand feed, then have to part with :very sad: .
After moving to Texas and helping my Best friend(chilen23) with his 180Gal I got back in the fever again and whipped out the tank for some new(and hopefully improved) action.
The tank is now up and running for about 2 weeks now. Some improvements from the old setup are: Added 2X250 MH and reduced the 3VHOs to 2, added moonlighting. Replaced the standard sump to a sump/refuge while doing away with bioballs. Upgraded to Reef Devil Protien Skimmer and upgraded return from rio2100 to a Mag 12 (still trying to determine if may be TOO MUCH water flow).
Most of the water and all the LR was transferred to mine from the 180Gal so there shouldn't be much of a spike, if any at all. I've added a bubblecoral, hammer spawn, Xenia and 2 fish so far. The corals seem to be doing well so far. One of the fish(damsel) has died while the other (forgot what it's called wormy fish) seems to be doing ok although he spends most his time in the rocks which still leaves me the question if I might have too much flow for fish like Damsels? Going to try with another Damsel.
So finally I would like to say another thanks again for all the valuable information you all provide. Even if I might not make it too many meeting I hope to at least become a paying member to help support the DFWMAS. I have already met several members(even got to see Scott's 700Gal starfire
:D can't wait to see it again when it's running) and am sure to meet many more. Please feel free to leave any comments/suggestions :)
Have a nice day
Brad

P.S. Hope to get pictures on here soon]

[Welcome Brad,

Man that is two new McKinney reefers in as many weeks. Sunny/Cherly just started posting the other day. We are really turning in to a little reefing community. I just wish we had a LFS around.

Good luck with the new tank set up and keep us posted.

[Welcome Brad, glad your back into the addiction!

Damsels can do perfectly fine in in really high currents so I doubt that was a problem. Almost all fish can adapt to all but extreme currents!

IF you really like damsels go for it but know that they can get really aggresive (there is a reason the blue ones are nicknamed Blue Devils!) and this might limit your future tankmate choices.

An excellent alternative would be a clownfish. Either a percula or a false perc would be great.

Make sure you test your water. You are correct that since you tranferred most there should not be a big spike but test just in case. Damsels are awefully hardy so you may have had a spike and not known it.]

[Im far from a Genius, but i do know that when i first started reefing, I put my damsels through hades (wouldnt let me say the other word) and back. I got real bad advice before finding this site and even added them before my tank had cycled completely. They all survived and a few months down the line i got rid of them all. Maybe something was wrong with the damsel before it went in, otherwise there might be a huge problem in your tank. You might consider buying a better test kit. What are you using now??]

[*Update*

I did get another Damsel and darn if it didn't die to. I did notice the other fish was being a little aggresive to the damsel. Now the other fish is MIA. Well anyways a week ago I got a clown Perc and anemone and both are still alive and healthy along with the rest of the corals and 2 peppermint shrimp.

As of now I have a GHA bloom which I am trying to combat. I just did my first water change yesterday b/c my Ph jumped up to 8.8 but everything else was good. I don't have a test kit for Alk and Phos yet (with Holidays coming up fish budget is a little limited :sosad: ). I've added a couple more turbo snails and looking into ordering a cleanup crew.

I have pictures of the tank, just have to find somewhere I can download them onto the web to link here.
