What seems to be everyone's favorite or most reliable heater to use without a controller?

I wont be getting a controller anytime soon with my new build so I am trying to figure out what would be the best/most reliable heater that people seem to use now. Ive always used Jager heaters but ive been eyeballing the cobalt heaters for 2 reasons, 1 there isnt any glass and 2 its computer chip controlled instead of bimetal contacts.

Thoughts?

Something else I didnt think to ask.....how does everyone feel about running multiple heaters instead of 1 big one?

I would try running two weaker weaker heaters, instead of 200 w heater, run two 100 watts instead. I have never done it, but next build I definitely will.

Also I would never run a system without a controller on my heater again. I have used multiple aqueon pro, eheim jager, rena and none of them are accurate, or accurate after a years use. I set them at 86 and use this as a temperature controller to keep my tank at 78.

STC is cheap and works perfectly.

I run two Jager heaters. Reason is, if one fails at least there will be some heat for your system. But, I am running them with my Apex so I am covered either way....one stops working, or stuck on, the Apex will do it's jod!!
Without some kind of controller, you can get what denierlexiese suggest or this: http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=3578+3743+29387&pcatid=29387

If you are not running a control imo it's a must to run two smaller heaters. If one gets stuck on it will not over heat tank and if one goes out it won't get to cold. Even with a controller i run two. And I've only ever used jäger heaters. These were the best 10 years ago when I got in the hobby and things change so im sure there are other good ones. But Jagers are still top quality. I also recommend some sort of controller. A rancho single stage control can be found for under $50 that's a quality controller.

I agree with running multiple vs one in case one fails.

Also, I recently had a Cobalt explode and the toxins that spewed killed more than half of my livestock (fish & coral). With that said, I did talk with their customer service in depth ... as well, Marc spoke with someone from Cobalt. I was convinced as well as Marc expressed to me that it was an isolated incident and I continue to use them.

In my experience, they are more accurate than any others I've used and maintain a more consistent temp.

isolated or not thats a risk i cant afford in this build. ive read a lot of reviews saying the leak voltage and stop working after a few months

My tank has Eheim Jagers. 3w per gallon, divided across two or more heaters.

My system holds 450g of liquid volume. Technically I should be using 1350 watts of heat, but I have three 300w heaters and keep my house at a comfortable temperature.

Same here. These are my personal favorites. I have two of them for the tank and recently bought a third for my water mixing station since they're completely submersible and I could just let it sit on the bottom of the water barrel.

I like the JBJ true temp heater controller and you can use most any heater with it. I use a 300w titanium. I set the temp to 79 degrees on the JBJ controller. I then use my reef controller to set a high temp that will shut off the port if the temp goes above 80 degrees and sends an alert. It turns back on when the temp goes under 80. This way I have the JBJ controller that just does it's job as normal and the reef controller as a failsafe. I also have a low temp set to 78 degrees so I get an alert.

I think I'm gonna stick with the jäger heaters. I still haven't made up my mind on doing another controller for the tank

I love my Finney HC-0810. Have it on my 210g and hasn't let me down

I still havent decided what to do regarding temp control yet.....I may end up getting a controller anyway so that I can control my LED's......problem is that may be much much later

Ehiem all the way, I run a 250 and 150 on my 90 , 250 is primary and if it fails or is not enough power the 150 comes on, but I use apex to control.
