Heater controllers

I'm wanting to back up my heaters with controllers. The issue for me is that whatever I do I have to think in terms of 3 (well actually 5 - but more focused on my saltwater so we'll do x3 )... so that sort of limits my options as I don't have an unlimited source of funds. IE ... my first choice would be an Aqua Controller 3 Pro with the PX 1000 probe expansion which would allow monitoring of all 3 tanks... but that's quite pricey so moving on...

I'm ordering from MarineDepot so I would be leaning more towards the Aqua Medic or the Hydor Hydroset both between $55-60. Has anyone had experience with either of these? Additional suggestions? Pros/cons are very welcome.

Thank you

I am using a single stage Ranco controller. I got it used for somewhere around $35. These are industrial grade controllers and work great. Watch and make sure the one you find is wired unless you feel like being an electrician.

Thanks Gary. I vaguely remember hearing someone mention name Ranco (I think it was yesterday at the seminar). Not offered by Marine Depot, but I will look into it... especially if it's of higher quality. I do want to save some $$ but don't want to waste $$ buying too cheap either.

Okay after researching the Ranco controller and seeing all the great reviews, I'll do that instead for my 3 tanks. But I opted to try out the AquaMedic and use it on my QT and see how it does.

Thanks

Anton thanks, but that one would take more research. For me if something has an ability to connect to a computer than I would want that option or at least the ability to "add on" accessories as I go. But I don't think you can do that with the AquaController, but I'm not really sure. I haven't done a lot of looking into it. Plus I need to have something reliable for all three tanks... So three ACJr would be about $420 +/- and that's just the basic one.

Thanks for the info & food for thought.
