Haven and Keith's New 225 Build

Well, the day has come that the 120 just isn't big enough. After a year of having this one set up and then getting the 75 gallon and buying more and more corals, it's just too crowded now that I decided to get rid of the 75. So we bought a 225 gallon. It is being delivered tomorrow and then let the fun begin! Transferring everyone over is going to be interesting to say the least but should be adventurous none the less. We will keep this post updated as we go with as much step by step as we can as we do the transfer. We currently have a small bubble algae problem and so one of the goals will be to eliminate the bubble algae. Here is a picture of the pretty new tank.

That looks a like one I was looking at [smilie=wink.gif]

Tagging along to see how you do the transfer as I'll be in the same boat sooner or later.

Haven forgot the technical details. It is 72 x 27 x 27 with one overflow that has 3 drains and two returns inside. Bottom is PVC. Can't wait to get started on this!

We have been sitting here thinking about flow for this tank. This will be a mixed reef with SPS and LPS. What would you do? Open to any and all suggestions.
Vortech, Tunze, Combination?
Which models?

Thanks

Tank would be awesome with 2 mp 60s and some 40s on the back wall.....

I've got the exact same tank size. I bought it as a 227g rather than a 225g, but same diminsions.

For flow I'm going with a combination. A Tunze 6215 wavebox, an MP40 (another one will be added), and a few K4s for directional flow in any dead areas.

What size is the overflow and drain/return sizes? I haven't installed mine yet. Looks great!

My husband says they appear to be 3 1" drains, and 2 3/4" returns. Could be 1.5" and 1". We will know tomorrow when it gets here. Like the idea for flow you have. We have a Tunze Nano Wavebox now, maybe we can sell it and then get the 6215 wavebox and then either an MP40 or the new Tunze 6255 and use koralias for dead spots.

I wonder if the koralias will really be needed? When we put the Tunze Nano wavebox in our 120 it moves pretty much every square inch of water...

If you want a second nano wave box I can sell you mine for $150 just put it on the other end of the tank

You think it is possible to use two nano waveboxes to create either a single wave or double wave in the same tank? I am not sure how you would sync them??? I might be interested.

BTW, tank should be here today!

2 wave boxes would be AWESOME!!!! plus you dont have to hassle with selling a nice piece of equipment you recently aquired. Looking forward to this build. Have you thought about lights? Ready to mix in some more LED's? 8) (says the man that just put a MH over his tank) LOL

I have 5 ecoexotic panoramas that are going to go over it. Will be moving the two Lumenarc Stealth 250w MHs over it as well. I will be looking for one more 250w MH pendant. Don't trust LEDs yet for anything other than adding nice color to the tank. We have bought too many frags from others running LEDs that are brown and then watch what cool color they change to under our MHs...
