I found this link and just wanted to know if any one has tried this screen.

I haven't (yet?) but have had ideas like this bouncing around in my noggin for several years... Would be interesting to give it a go...

turf algae scrubbers are nothing new. They have been around for many many years. A time back I read an article about a public aquarium of good size that this was there only filter, but I am pretty sure that was back in the 70's or 80's. I thought about it but reasoned that if it was so great why arent more using this meathod. Heck of alot cheaper and more natural. I guess that was naive of me to think that. You know that companies push their producs wether they are better or worse than the already obvious solutions eg ethonol in the gas. Maybe i will add this to my diy projects.

Been a while since I've seen one, but they were very popular there for a while. If I recall correctly, they just can't export enough algae to keep up with a decently stocked tank.

How long do you think it would take to get the algae going. There was a link to some one that sold the screen with algae on it all ready. I think it might be worth a try..

I would assume that the startup rate is based on load. And if you get one "preseeded" and you dont have the load to support it then it would feed itself which would inheritly be bad. BTW i recently switched lighting on my fuge to some 100w 6500k spiral cf bulbs from HD and a reflector for shop lights. Works really well for algae.
