Harlequin shrimp question

So based on the adviced recieved here, I've decided to house my next CC starfish in the sump and feed it to my Harlequin leg by leg. Please bare with me as I'm new to this !! So, can I cut the leg with any thing like say a knife? Also how often should I cut a leg and feed it to the shrimp? This is a bit of an odd question but I'll ask anyway [smilie=smile.gif] . When the CC is on his last leg [smilie=lol.gif] [smilie=lol.gif] , should I get a new CC and start over ( in hopes it grows the legs back) or feed the remainder to the shrimp. It seems to me the CC will not get a chance to regrow its members in time.

I find throwing the whole CC in the tank a better option, but I've been told it could foul up my water. True or false?

When I had a harlequin, I just put the starfish in a ziplock and put it in the freezer.

We keep 2 cc's in our sump. We cut one leg off once a week or so and feed the harlequin. It's not enough time for them to regrow limbs but that's ok. Once it gets down to one leg, throw the rest in.

I feed mine once every couple weeks as he has chomping down on the asterina starfish also

Ok, I'll try 1 leg a week. My Asterina population is dwindling which is why I got the Harlequin in the first place. I do want it to be well fed. I hate to starve my tank inhabitants !!

What is a good tool for cutting the legs?

Wow, how right you are !! Those suckers are very hard to cut through. I feel you Jody, but we all got to eat. The wild can be much more barbaric !!
