Check this link out. I need to add halides for my cycling sps to be tank. Could I use this setup, excluding the bulb? Seems to good to be true, money wise.
Maybe I'm just being silly, but I would be hesitant to use a fixture designed for the -ahem- indoor gardening industry over my reef... 1000 watt MH... That's a LOT of current draw... That, and admittedly I've never researched it, but what kind of bulb selection is there in the 1000 watt arena? 10k, 12k, 15k, 20k's available, or are they more inline with the kelvin ratings for terrestrial plant growth?
Ya its obviously for "plants". I am not worried about the electricity bill. We have a fixed payment in my apts, so my bill wont go up. I was wondering if I could find a 14k or 20K 1000 watt myself. I was going to call a to t on Monday and inquire.
I like the 14k look. Does the reflector seem to be adequate? It does to me, especially the size, since its only going over a 58 gallon tank. Is it extreme overkill, or will the future sps love it? Would 3 or 4 hours be sufficient running this a day or should I run it for a full eight? I will run T5s for the remainder of the day. If it seems like a waste of time and money I would love to hear it before I have to test then replace.

1000W of halide is MAJOR overkill for a 58g tank. That is going to be a major heat problem. A 150W or 250W halide will be much more appropriate for that size aquarium.
That seems like a TON of Light wattage you plan on dumping on your tank
Typically you wont see over 400W over any one area. I could see 1000W of your tank is more than 40" High. Depending on the PAR output of the bulbs, you might be asking for problems. As far as Power (for ReefMike) it's only 8.4 Amps, a hair dryer draws 50% more power so your home's electrical system "should" be able to handle it.
