Guidelines for fragging corals

Is there any literature on the do's and dont's of fragging. Since I have a pretty small tank, I have never tried to frag anything. I guess I am afraid I will hurt the coral. I am unclear how to get the coral to let go of the rock with out huting it... how long is it okay to have the coral out of the water... basic stuff like that. I did a couple of searches, but didn't have much luck.

Gel super glue works the best. Just make sure you dap the areas in which you are going to glue together dry with a towel. Most should be ok if they are out of the water for about 5 to 10 mins. I wouldn't keep them out for longer then 15 or 20mins though.

FYI: Keep a bowl of RO/DI water close by. After glueing them together dip in the water and you see a layer of film come off the glue. Also make sure to wear rubber gloves. Some corals give off mucus that may or may not irrate the skin. Make sure the gloves does NOT have talcim powder either

agree....I was afraid once too so I started to ttry on few softies and etc and it came out great..

You can take the coral out of water for 5-10 minutes or so to get the surface as dry as possible...

Then you can use epoxy and super glu gel to speed up the gluing process...Leave it out for 2-3 minutes or so until the glue sets in and dip them in water bowl for about 30 second and put them back in the main tank.

Also keep an eye on your skimmer as sometimes either the glue or epoxy cause it to go crazy as they cure. Just happened to me this weekend when I added some new corals.

I've put the tube of super glue gel in the tank at times put a blob on the rock where I wanted the sps, stuck the frag on the rock and bam its done. No problem. The gel will film over immediately, stick the frag in the glue, give about a 1/4 inch turn, 30 seconds and its stuck. Done deal.

Odds are I'm going to get hammered for this one....

although not so bold as cruzer. I have taken something out, glued it and put it back in still wet holding it together underwater till it is cured. usually about one minute, the super glue i used turns white when it dries

That's pretty much what I do if I don't have rubble, except I usually dab my finger with it.
