GSM clow fish laid eggs

I just notice my GSM clown fish laid some eggs. I was not excepting this and I don't know what to do. I haven't setup for phyto or rotifer can some one give me some advice what to do...

it's actually too late to do anything.... because you'll need a really dense rotifer culture going, which means you'd need to have a few gallons of them, and enough food to feed the rotifer culture... unless you have like 20+ gals of live phyto going, you won't be able to sustain the rotifers...

so unless you have a good source of rotifers going, they wouldn't survive.
maroon clown fry are actually smaller than ocel. fry, which means the best food they can survive off of is "S" strain rotifers, but I do know a lot of them raised on "L" strain.

I have some L strain you can have to start your culture to raise the next batch if you like.

and also, it's a pain to try to catch the fry from the tank since they're laid on rocks. you should put a flower pot in there so the fish will lay eggs in there.

Thank you for the information, it too bad that i can't do anything  . I guess I need to get ready for next batch. if you don't mind can i get some rotifer from you later when I'm ready. I guess I need to setup Phyto first than rotifer right. on my way to find some phyto :D

do you know how often clown fish laid eggs?

Thanks

Hi Reefmkr, My GSM started laying eggs in April. I wanted to raise them so I picked up 2 bottles of rotifers from Michelle and 2 bottles of phyto from Cheryl. I got the rotifers the day before the eggs hatched and the phyto I got the day after eggs hatched; so as you can tell I couldn't have raised the whole batch of fry. I only captured about 20-30 babies on May 24 and I am happy to say I have 2 babies left. This was my first attempt at raising the fry. I didn't think any would survive, but I followed the book called Clownfishes by Joyce Wilkerson as best as I could and it worked.
I think one reason that I only have 2 left is that the biggest baby killed the others, the second biggest is her mate. They still fight, but so far both are still alive and 32 days old now. The book says maroons are the most difficult of clowns to grow out. That means after they go through metamorphosis they look like miniature maroon clowns and they act like them too.

My clowns lay eggs about every 11 days and the eggs hatch on the 6th night about 1-2 hours after lights out. Keep a calendar and write down everything, that's what I did. Temperature has a lot to do with when eggs will hatch. Mine laid on the rock first and then I added the tile for easier collection; the parents were only delayed by 2 days before laying eggs again. They didn't lay the eggs on the tile the very next batch, but they did use the tile the batch after that.

I would be happy to help you and answer any questions, just send me a PM.

Here's a couple pictures. The fry tank is a 2 gallon hex. I just moved the babies to the breeder net yesterday, so I'm not sure how it will work out yet. I needed to free up the fry tank for the next batch of eggs I'm going to try. This will be my second attempt at raising the eggs.

Good luck and please let me know if you want to talk.
