Grouper changing color

Is it normal for a speckled grouper to change colors all the time? Mine is like a chameleon its constantly going from black with white spots to very light gray with white spots. I was just wondering if anybody elses groupers did this. Or does anybody else have any groupers? If so what kind?

many fish do this when they try to hide cause they are scared or just trying to find a spot to stay for the night.

My friend has a spotted grouper and it constantly changes color. Pretty cool, but mean fish. It's mainly black, but occasionally turns gray or sometimes even show a dark blue to it. It is normal just like Wes says.

there was one at my LFS that was in a 55g tank all by his self and when he went to the left side of the tank he would go pale and match the colors of the rocks that didnt have much coraline algae that were mostly white. when it would go to the right side where the rocks were more colorful, it would color up and try to blend in. really cool fish.
