Grounding probe installation

[I'm using plastic cased GFI power strips & need to install grounding probes. Where am I supposed to hook up the wire for grounding? I can't get to the main outlet since I buried it behind the sump.]

[I'm not sure I understand the setup, but I'll try to answer. Most of the grounding probes I've seen have 3 prong plugs (some of the individual blades on the plug may be plastic too). These plugs must plug into a normal wall outlet that is properly grounded and optimally protected by a GFCI at the main panel electrical box. Since I assume you have the plastic encased GFCI's plugged into a properly grounded wall outlet (behind the sump), all you should need to do is to plug the probe plug into any of the outlets on the GFCI case. If the GFCI is protecting a series of outlets on the plastic housing, you could plug the probe into any available outlet. Again, I'm not sure I've answered your question, but hopefully it will help some. Reply if I'm totally lost... :sosad:

[Thanks for the info. I'll have to dig my probe out but I thought it had an additional wire that is supposed to be wrapped around the screw in the center of the outlet.]

[Interesting. Does the probe even have a plug then? Assuming not, you could still hook it up to work in one of the outlets of the GFCI. If you hook a gound wire up to the center screw, it MAY prevent large currents from harming you, but will never detect small pre-disaster electrical current 'leakages' from being detected (unless the screw is on an outlet that is properly grounded AND protected by a panel box GFCI). Better to make use of the GFCI circuitry if possible. Assuming you only have the ground wire coming from the probe, you can go to Home Depot/Lowes/Hardware store and buy a 3 prong plug and only hook up the probe wire to the center (somewhat rounded prong). The other 2 prongs will have nothing attached to them. Assuming the leakage/short is from some other device on the GFCI outlets (that does have a 3 prong plug already on it), the leakage/short should be detected and the ciruit disconnected if the probe detects stray voltage.]
