David,

That is a Seriatopora guttatus or green birdsnest. Nice progress, it will start to really take off now.

Ryan after doing some research I think that it is an ORA Green Stylophora. It is not a Digitata so thanks for pointing that out.

Why do they come from ORA so dark? Mine came the same way but has since lightened up like yours has. It still seems healthy with good extension and growth.

I believe that it has to do with the nutrients and other factors in or with the tank. I have started to feed Pappone along with Amino Acids a few weeks ago to see if it will make a difference. I also now wash all frozen food before feeding to the fish all to try and lower the nutrients in the tank. We will see in a month or two if this makes any difference. It could also be the lighting; I am currently using XM 10K?s. I am thinking about making change there as well. There are also many other variables that can affect color and growth. Stability of all the parameters is key to success.

Thanks for all comments and we hope that our tank continues as everything in it is showing great growth. I will post some more growth sequence pictures when I get a chance. The key for me as keeping the calcium, alk, and ph levels up and constant. I also perform a 30 gal water change every two weeks.

Questions please, im still learning.
How do you wash your frozen food?
What light changes are you thinking about?
Nice coral, i hope i get the same growth you got.
TIA Jesse

Questions please said:
I wash the frozen food with water from the aquarium after it has been defrosted.

As for the lighting I had 4 ea. XM 250W 10K MH?s but a little over six months ago I took two of the 10K?s out and replaced them with two 12K Reeflux MH?s.

As stated if you keep the water parameters stable and maintained water changes and low nutrients and you will get good growth.

I am about to change bulbs, is the reason i asked. I was also thinking of going to the 12 k after reading several posts that praised them. So you didnt loose any growth, great that is what i was worried about. Thanks for the response to my questions. :D

Remember that I have a mix of 10 & 12K lights.

Here is just the 10K?s

Notice the bluer tint to the overall lighting in the tank. Coral growth slows when you go above 12K.

Both these pictures were taken this past summer.

Since I am running a mix of lights I don't really know. It may be a little slower than with 10K but not much from what I have read.

If i went with 12's would it slow my growth noticably or only if i go above that? Awsome tank! said:
I think you would get the same growth with the 12ks as you would the 10k providing all you params are in check. As long as I keep my Ca, Mag and Alk where they need to be I have been getting phenomenal growth from my SPSs with my ReefLux 12k in the past month. Plus I do not need to run actinics to get that nice bluish look.
