green hair algae.

I found some green hair algae on my rocks, I'm wondering how to remove it, can i take my rock out of the tank and pick it off with my fingers then replace the rock. also i guess my nitrates might be spiking.. how much water should I change?

29g tank, with 30-45 pounds of live rock, 1-1.5 inch sand bed, 1- mated pair of clowns, 1- fairy wrassle from rodney, 1 - royal gamma from rodney, 4 bulb t5 h.o. fixture right on top of the tank. acrylic sump rated for up to a 65g, sea life systems skimmer rated for up to a 75-100g aquarium, return pump lifegaurd 1200, skimmer pump some weird over sea name pump. power head - aquaeon 750. not sure what other info you guys need.

i've never used tap water, all my water has been ro/di / saltwater from neptune's cove,

Controlling it is basically the same as with most any form of algae -remove as much as possible by hand, siphoning or filtration, reduce nutrients (DOC's -Dissolved Organic Compounds) by adding a protein skimmer, lower or remove high levels of nitrates and phosphates through proper tank maintenance, adjust the lighting levels higher or lower (depending on what type of green algae you are dealing with), use RO or DI water for make-up and top-off water in conjunction with a good quality sea salt mix (one low in nitrates, phosphates and other unwanted elements), and add the appropriate types of natural reef janitors (fish, snails, hermit crabs, crabs, etc.) that will consume the type of algae you may have.

i need to raise the light, but it's a 24 inch light fixture, and the legs for it are made to go on a 24 inch long tank, i need to find some one who could make some legs for it so it sits on my 29g tank, everything looks all ghetto riged, with clear tubing connecting the skimmer pump to the skimmer, and the return pump to pvc to use as a return line.. but it works...

ro/di has been coming from bills, not sure what he used.. only made my own saltwater one time buy getting ro/di from neptunes cove and mix instant ocean from pet suppies plus with it.. um any one got a TDS meter i could borrow?

would it be okay to take the rock out of the water pick the hair algae off, then put it back in the water? grr it's spread got on what looks to be all the rock.. how could it go from levels okay, and i added two fish, and a 15 plug of zoa and now all this happens?

aha just noticed it was you robert, it's me joey.. well at least my planted tank is doing good going to be at the dfwapc meeting at dna sunday? [smilie=lol.gif]
