Green algae

Ok here's another question. Im getting a lot of green algae all over the glass and a little bit Starting on the Rock. All my water levels are good
Ph 7.8
Nitrite-0
Nitrate-0
Ammonia-0
Temp 75- 76
I'm running T-5 lights 10k day lights 8 hours and atinic lights 9 hours.
The algae is building up really quickly I cleaned the glass at about 330 and by 6 there was already a noticeable buildup on the glass. Please help.

Ok what should the phosphate levels be at? I don't have a test kit for that yet and have left for work but will get one first thing in the morning and the tank has been running for about 5 weeks now I have 35 pounds of live sand and 60 pounds of live rock. 2 turbo snails 4 hermit crabs 2 cleaner shrimp and a mated pair of clown fish.

Your phosphate level should be below 0.05 but your tanks still brand new so you are probably experiencing an algae bloom. I would turn lights off for a few days. If you don't have anything in the tank yet (other than rock) then everything will be fine. Everything will still be fine even if you do have stuff in your tank. Otherwise I would cut down the lights for the time being. Only run your T5s a few hours and your actinic a few hours. This will help cut down on the algae bloom. It can take up to a week for it to go away but it will. Good luck.

My phosphates are at 0 and still continuing to have algae grow. I cut my lights back from 9 hours to about 5 Hours and haven't seen much of an improvement.

what test did you get? If phospate was zero there would be no algae, it needs light, phospate and co2 to grow

Take your water to a lfs and have them test it for you. Both phosphate and nitrate. I don't know if PetSmart tests water but at an lfs they will have new test kits. No telling how long the test kits sit on the shelf at PetSmart. They could be new or they could be a year old. Plus an lfs will have an electronic phosphate tester. Much more accurate than the API test.
