green algae

I have a green algae problem. I tried to scap it off the glass, but it just came right back. What do I need to do to get ride of it? I have a 30 gal. with 30lbs. Live rock, 2 damsels, 1 clown, 20 snails, with 450w MH. yeah lots of light for the little tank. please help

What kind of water are you using for your tank? If you are using tap water that might be the cause of the green algea. Tap water has phosphates in it and algae loves phosphates. The water that is better for your tank is RO/DI water.(Reverse Osmosis) and can be found at your local water store.

Good Luck

i hear that some marco algae help to reduce you phosphate levels, but i cant remember which one...

if someone could post that info that would probably help bothhermy and myself.

I am using R/O water. I have had my tank running now for 1 1/2 years and never had this problem. Water has always been clear as a bell. What is Cheato? HOpe I get more info on that. If the micro algae is good for the tank that is good, but will it go away? It is hard to enjoy the tank when I can't see into it. ;)
Thanks for all the replies. I will keep working on the problem and let ya know what happens.

I'll give you tons of cheato if you want to come to Ft. Worth. You can probably find someone to give it to you in Plano though. I have some in my QT tank and it keeps nitrates down.

Is that a mistake 450W Halide? I didnt even know they make halides stronger then 400W, you must be keeping some serious sps in there otherwise I would think most LPS would bleach in seconds.

yes. I made a misstake on the lighting.. it is 250 watts..I just make a major water change.. hope that improves the tank..

I did test my nitrates and they seemed high. What kind of water change schedule would you suggest? How often? I don’t think feeding is a problem, for I feed them half a frozen brine shrimp every day. They eat it up with in 2 minutes. Don’t have a sump...yet. I am not that advance and don’t know how to set that up, but want to though.
Thanks for all the advice. I get smarter and smarter about fish every day I am on this site, thanks to you all.
