Grandfather's liverock show piece out of storage?

Spar

I was just going through a storage room of my grandfather's and he has a really nice show piece live rock with a big dead (obviously) piece of thick SPS on it, which he brought back from Hawaii in 1950 with him. He gave it to me and asked if I would be able to put it in my new aquarium, which I think would look really nice. He had just used this as a show piece sitting on his living room table all these years.

Question is: what do I need to do/check to make sure this thing is suitable to go in my tank? e.g. how good of a washing do I need to do, how long do I need to cycle/cure the thing for, what procedures, what tests should I perform (such as to ensure no copper or anything ever got on it, which is highly doubtful anyway), etc?

If it has copper in it/on it, then it should leach out into the water and show up in a test.

I had some old LR sitting out in the garage that I soaked in rodi water overnight, scrubbed with a brand new grill brush (dollar at the dollar store, and toss after your done b/c it will rust), rinsed them heavily, and soaked them again over night.

I think proper curing of LR takes 4-6 weeks?

Cliff,

You can always do a vinegar followed by an acid wash to get rid of any possible phosphate, copper issue with the LR. http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1587539
