Well I went to for the 400s. I installed them last night.

I turned the 4 96watt PC into all antics

What’s a good brake in protocol?

For the first day I have the lights mounted 14 inches above the water. I dug out the old glass lids and put egg crate on top of that. TO protect the tank form sum burn.

I turned one 400W on from 8:00 to 11:00. Then, both lights on from 11:00 to 1:00. Now I have one (the other side from this morning) on till I get home at 4:30.

I figure I will keep increasing run time till I get to 11 hrs. A day

Then remove the egg creates and glasses from the top.

Then start moving the lights down to 8 inches from the water.

How long should I stretch this out?]
 
[I think inceasing the light by an hour a week would be safe. You may though have to move some lower light corals to the sand though. Do you have a chiller? I can't imagine with glass tops on the tank how the water is not getting into the high 80s.]

Heat seems to be OK so far. I got two new four inch Ice Cap fans when I got the lights

The are three speed controlled by a heat sensor.

What are the first signs of sunburn on the corals?

So far they seem to be soaking he extra light up. Especially the anemones. I swear the flower grew a half an inch around, in a few hours.]
 
[Ron, unless you just HAVE to move your lights down... I would suggest that you leave them high up. It makes it a LOT easier to control your temps and 400's make for very intense light in the upper portions of your tank.

FWIW. I am running a pair of 400's on a 24" tank and am running out of room on the sand.

[Just take your time with your lights. I ran mine 2 hours the first day, then increased it 15 mins longer each day until I reached 10 hours a day.]

[I second the be careful comment. Especially with halides. I have a hammer that was position vertical for a few months, I just moved it horizontal and the entire bottom bleached. It is coming back, but I could no belive this happened. BTW the piece is almost on the sand. LOL

I am going to order 10k bulbs soon and fear bleaching my entire tank. I know the PAR is going to double going from the 20k xm to a 10k.]
