Got my Lalo today!!!

Looks cool, bought 60 lbs from live aquaria.com

All kinds of different colors, and all kinds of life on them.

The only thing, is that some of the rock had a stench. like bad breath stench.

I put all the rock into a garbage pail filled with saltwater for the curing process. I cant wait to get this stuf into my tank.

Whoo, let me tell you guys and gals somethin'

DO NOT cure live rock in an apartment.
Make sure that you have enough, space and water, and ventilation. period.

dudes and dudettes, I will have to get pictures of the cured rock. It stinks so bad in my apartment right now, Im leaving.

I did a water swap and scrubbed them down, They look pretty good. lots of green and orange. nice shapes. two big pieces, 3 medium, and lots of small.

Yea - When the stench gets to bad. The neighbors will call the cops thinking there is a dead body is in the apartment.

Then you know it is done! :D

Cool so can cover up a dead body smell with cureing LR   now I know what to do with people who cut me off

HAHA, the neighbors did call the cops!!

I poured all the waste water down my bathtub drain, not realizing that all the drains in the building are connected. Dude, could smell the stink all the way out to my garage.

The cops had to come inside and take a look. I told them it was just aquarium rock. They got to my bathroom door, and turned right around. I pulled the lid on my trash can, so one could see, and he about barfed right there. I lifted the toilet lid for him! just told me to do the best that i could with it.

This is great. I now remember what I went through with my live rock. I tried to keep it next to the bathroom, which is in our master bedroom. I thought my wife was going to shoot me. She made me put it in the garage.
I had 200 lbs  It took three weeks for the smell to go away.
This is too funny. You gotta bust out with some pics:lol:

pics will come next water change,
i pick them out of the trash can and rinse them off, check for die-off (white stuff) and fill with new water.

Maybe thursday....

what sucks, well it doesnt suck for me, but I am going out of town for two weeks. Ill be leaving this saturday. I have a couple of helpers here who might be able to change the water out,

Think it would hurt to leave the rocks in the vat for two weeks straight with probably a maximum of 2-3 water changes?

The smell that you are experiencing is probably the mullisks that are on the rock. I have over 150lbs of that lalo rock from live aquaria so i know what you are talking about. If you heat up the water a bit, it will help the process. Some of the rock I got came in pretty clean, but the rock with the mullisks took a while to cure and get rid of the smell.

good luck. Its pretty rock

As long as the water isn't stagnant it's no issue at all. just toss in a couple of power heads and it will be fine. in fact water changes aren't completely necessary when curing rock. You can cure it in the same water and then do a large water change at the end.
