I got the bulkheads and plumbing in today and I have many :?: :?: :?:

I'll post pics of what I got and see if yall can help me.

parts i have...i understand the bulhead part but i guess it's the drain pipe that has the sponge and i don't want the sponge on there.

and the pack didn't come with the pivots for the return...what can i do about this one?

since i have the bulkheads can I just customize the plumbing myself and get it from a hardware store? and the pack came with teflon tape. do i use that or do i need to use some kind of glue?

tia

Ok, you understand the bulkhead. As for the drain, lose the sponge and do a search for Durso standpipe. Go to the local hardware store and buy what you need. Very simple, effective, and silent once you get it "tuned" so to speak.

As for the locline, you should have got a ball with a female threaded end to go into a 3/4" threaded elbow. If you didn't, the locline is all but useless as you will have no way to attach it. You can do a temporary with PVC until you recieve the piece you need from your LFS, who left it out by the way (or kept it).

Looks like you are on your way!

Good luck!

P.S. Did you only get one bulkhead? Do you have two holes inside your overflow?

I got two bulkheads. I can't find the pivot ball anywhere so the LFS is going to order it in and should have it by next week. So don't use the pipe that is under the sponge? It has lots of holes all around it. Should I use it? I'll look up what Durso is. Thanks

A Durso Standpipe can be found on this page:

Got it. So just go to a hardware store and find the piping to fit the pvc pipes that came with the tank and make the piping I buy into a durso?

I'd recommend going one size larger than your drain line for the durso set-up. Use and adapter to go from what you have to the next size larger at the bulkhead then build the durso in that size. It will take up a little more room, but will allow a bit quiter operation and won't be as prone to gurgle and surge, ie.. easier tuning.

The Durso needs a 3/16" hole drilled in the cap to vent.

The return line shouldn't have so many elbows. Just make it taller with one elbow pointing out right over the overflow.

Yeah, I went back to Lowes and got a piece that would work with the locline instead of using the pivots that my LFS is ordering. I'll make the return taller.

That wasn't even all the elbows I put on it today! :D

I started figuring that wouldn't work :D

Just remember, every elbow, or 45 or bend you make causes you to lose some flow. So you want to make it with as few as possible. If you can use 2 45s instead of a 90 it helps, spaflex helps even more because if make very gently curves without using any fittings. Im obiously not talking about your return inside the overflow box when talking about spaflex and 45s, but just more of a general statement.
