golden pygmy angel is not eating

i got an amazing deal on this guy. he looks great, fat, no ich, but, ever since i got him 4 days ago he hasn't eaten and is acking a bit lithargic and timid in a corner. my coral beauty gave him some grief at the start but not any more. i have been feeding the tank mysis and brine shrimp. i also keep a clip of fern culerpa and nori for anyone that what's it. i haven't even seen him nipping on any rocks either. I am kind of new to the hobbie so no suggestion will be fall on deaf ears.

thank you,

YUKI

Sorry to go off on a tangent, I don't know squat about feeding Angels, but when you say Fern Caulerpa, do you mean Caulerpa Taxifolia? Looks like this:

If so, I wouldn't try to feed it to my fish, it contains a toxin and most of them won't eat it, and those that will eat it it'll give 'em an upset tummy, at best...

mine looks more like a feather with zig zag edges. maybe it is called feather culerpa. i looked it up it is caulerpa sertularioides. I also have grape, and saw blade. I don't know what is taisty for them.

My pigmy was the same.... I introduced him into the tank with a slow acclimation and after about 1 half hour. He was swimming and looking healthy for about a week, then just dissappeared!!

One note, although he looked healthy, I never did see him eat anything.

I have a Carribean Angel, Coral Beauty Angel, and the Pigmy (well....)

Dispite what everyone says about mixing angels, the Carribean Angel & Coral Beauty Angel seems to do great!

Sorry to hear that Yuki. I also have one of these fish. They are beautiful fish. They tend to not do well in captivity. Because of their cryptic nature many are caught with cyanide. They can be reclusive. Mine won't come to the front of the tank to get food or eat off an algae clip. I have to put quite a bit of food in the tank for it to get any. I have heard many people say they never see them in their tanks. Does it appear to be eating off the rocks? This fish is so shy that I would not put it in a tank with another dwarf angel.

It is also very important that these fish have plenty of places to hide.

It is not recommended to keep a Golden angel with other dwarf angels. With that being said, I have one with a Multicolor dwarf angel. I have had my Golden for about 4 months. It was eating at the store when I bought it. The store had it in a tank with not many places it could hide. When I got it home it had a ton of hiding places in the rockwork in my old 105 tank. It still would come out and eat and even ate off of the algea clip with my Chrysurus and Purple tang. When I upgraded to my 210 tank, the rockwork is more open with basically no dark spots, but shaded. The Golden took to the new environment right off. I introduced the Multicolor about 3 days after the Golden was in the 210. They swam up to each other and off they went. They are often seen swimming together, and have shown no aggression towards each other. Hopefully your Golden will come around.

Update: Well, i appreciate the stories good and bad. the good ones give me hope. Atleast mine is acting somewhat typical. i now have spotted ich. he and my blue hippo got it. on a brighter note i saw the angel cautiously nip some algea on my return pipe and some grape culerpa on a clip that i put in his corner. Seems the grape is popular among most of my fish.
another thing I heard to do is not clean my glass for a little while to let the algea build up for everybody. I will do that and maybe drop my salinity a little for a few days. I heard that helps them fight off the ich. I hope my guys are fighters.

thanks YUKI

Sorry to hear about your ich situation. Dropping your salinity "alittle for a few days" will not work. You will need to remove the fish to a Q tank and then lower the salinity slowly over a couple of days to 1.009. That low of a salinity would harm or kill your inverts. Here is the link that I used when I used hyposalinity, http://www.petsforum.com/personal/trevor-jones/hyposalinity.html. I used it with success. I hope this helps.
