Goby and algae

I have lost 2 dragon gobies within 3 months, are these difficult fish? Also, My 110G tank has been established for 2 years, I have good circulation in my tank, I just started getting algae growning on my sand only. I do water changes every 10-14 days. The light stays on 9 hours a day. Is that too much? Any ideas? Thanks!

Tell us more about the algae. Color? The only kind I've had grow on sand isn't actually algae buy cyanobacteria.

Looks like the beginning of some cyano to me. You can try to increase circulation a bit to that area (without creating a sandstorm!), or you can manually remove it (just syphon it out). It will usually "stick together" during removal.

agreed, looks like cyanobacteria bloom, have you recently increased your bioload or have you always had a problem with it? Your phosphates may be a little high, you could consider running a phosban reactor or doing more frequent water changes.
