gluing frags to rock?

ok. i know there are all kinds of different glues u can use and i've seen people post using super glue and a bunch of different kinds. my question is, are there some super glues u cant use? or can u use any of them? and do u have to take the frag and the rock out of the tank to glue it or do u put the glue on the plug and stick it on the rock? doesn't it put the fumes and stuff in the water and isn't it harmful to the corals/fish? any input on this would be greatly appreciated.. thx!

all super glues ive seen are all Cyanoacrylate in one form or another. the chemical is safe any gel from i think is the easier form to use. When i place frags if i can easily take out the rock i do to make think simpler. You can glob the frag plug and put it into the tank but when the frag hits the water it will make a film around the glue so you need to put enough for it to i guess ooze out of the film. its hard to explain. the salt water acts as an accelerator so you don't really need to worry about fumes and stuff. ust dont use a whole tube for one frag and you should be ok. If you need i can show you if your ever in this area.

I use loctite super glue GEL. Has to be the gel kind. You have to take the frag out of the tank incase it should emit something toxic while handling them. I take a little bit of water out of my main tank and when I affix the frag to the gel I pour a little bit of water on it to make the gel harden. Then I put it back on a frag rack for it to heal.

In my experience, the super glue gel doesn't really "stick" the coral to the rock. I think it dries and fills holes and cracks in the rock/coral and forms a mechanical hold (similar to the hold a screw gets in wood). Usually this is enough of a hold to allow the frag to grow onto the rock and develop it's real hold. If only we could bottle up the natural adhesive corals/clams make we would millionaires! The super glue dries really fast. Sometimes I used the two-part epoxy stick. It allows for more time, but again, it's really only a mechanical hold.

I also have not had much luck with soft corals and glue.

Don't use gorilla glue it gases more than most. I use CorAffix. It works the best that I have found and the cheapest. I glue xenia's and leathers with it. I haven't found anything that works on shrooms well.

Go to hobby lobby and buy aleenes jewelry glue it is thick and I use it to glue my Frags to live rock in my tank

You can actually make the glue stick to the rock instead of filling up holes but you have to put a big glob on your finger and then run it on the rock in the place you want to glue, it will turn white and make a nice glean base on the rock then you put a little glue on your frag and the moment you put it in the water it will turn white with a film and the white film gets a little thick so when you place the coral on your rock you need to rub it around a little also to break open the film that got created and you will theoretically be gluing glue to glue :)

at least this is what I do and it seems to work well, Although sometimes you might have to hold it in place for 30 sec to a min.

Ive managed to glue things as big as a 6 in diameter montipora plate to a rock just fine with no wholes used.
