Glass Baffle help

I picked up my glass for my sump baffles today, and I need to know if there is a way to sand the glass to make it fit? I must have mis measured it or something but I need to take off about 1/8" of each piece. Do I need a special sandpaper? Any help would be appreciated.

FYI for future "do-it-yourselfers" If you measure 9.75" (3 times) tell the glass shop 9.5" because its going to be off by .2" and it is much easier to fill in with silicon than it is to shave it off.

Yeah I had the same issue. I just bought 4 glass baffles from a local glass shop....I told them I needed 17 1/4 length....After getting home all four pieces were different lengths....I was able to get 3 to fit but one was just too big. (Almost 1/2 inch too big). It's a bit frustrating, since they obviously didn't "Measure twice, cut once..."

I have used my industrial belt sander to do this with 140 grit. I know it's a little rough for the glass but I used a very light hand. I was too lazy to change the belt to something finer....

Good Luck.

I spoke with several people today trying to get something to do this, and all the responses were the same. "Take it to a glass shop."

Some people told me that the dust created from sanding it is dangerous. (believable)

Some people told me that the glass would shatter (maybe)

And another told me that I couldn't get it straight without all the stuff that the glass shop has. (I don't need laser precision for my sump)

My thinking is that taking it to the glass shop is going to cost more than the $30 to order new pieces, but I guess I'll find out Monday as I cant find a glass shop open on the weekend.

FYI Depending on how thick the glass is HD or Lowes both have glass cutting tables at the store I have had them cut a 1/4" piece just to clean up the edge. Just be sure that the person doin it is the guy that runs the department
