GHA or ?.

I have some gha and it grows in a clump like and is rather slimy to the touch.
I also have something that I thought was gha but it is a little different looking. This has what reminds me of a frond/leaf from a fern that is very small and not as slimy to touch, seems to have more texture and grows faster than the gha.
I do wish I could post an image but, not possible.
If you even think you have an idea of what it is, or if it is ok to let it stay in the tank please let me know. I have pulled it out a couple of times now but it does keep coming back.

Second sounds very much like feather calurpa. Ok in a fuge, bad in the display. It will indeed grow like a weed. Fortunatly it is easier to remove than GHA. But both should be eliminated ASAP!

Dog gone it.... I wish it would have just waited to come after I can get a sump/refugium made (hopefully by Marc) I am doing everything I can now to get rid of all the "stuff" that I don't want in the new tank, like the gha and now the feather calurpa also.

Keith that was pretty impressive that you identified the "stuff" without an image. Thank you. It is easier to pull off than gha for sure, it comes off in bigger clumps. I have ordered 100 blueleg hermits and some snails in the gb so maybe that will help also.

What else do you recommend to get rid of gha and feather calurpa? Would you ever put any live rock in a new tank that had either one of these things on it? Do you think it would ever go away? If the answer is no, what would I do with my corals and polyps (which is many) that is attatched to the life rock  I sure hope I don't have to get rid of all this stuff and start over.

To get rid of GHA: http://www.melevsreef.com/gha.html

To get rid of caulerpa, total darkness for several days will really weaken it to the point that you could pick off the majority, but you almost need a hungry fish to eat every last speck of it. I don't know of any, to be honest. Working over each rock with tweezers is painstaking, but effective. Don't leave anything behind, and don't let any blow around in the tank.

Marc, would it also kill my polyps/corals that are attatched to the live rock that has gha on it if I had to put them in darkness for a few days?

Kill? Maybe not, but they won't do well without light. I'd try to only move rock covered with algae into darkness, and work on the corals with the hand-picking method. Then place snails on those areas to clean off the last of it.

Thanks Marc, sadly it's going to be a while before I can get the other tank going anyhow so I'll try this route. Wish me luck. Lord I "HATE" gha.... :x

We had just one trouble rock with GHA and aptasia. Eventually my husband yanked it out and scrubbed it under freshwater and recured it.

Guess what, aptasia grew back!

Hopefully within the next few weeks mr copperband will notice it. By the way, our bi-color angel loves gha.

Catherine, thanks for the tips. Unfortunately I have most of the live rock with gha now or at least half. About a month ago I took three of my lr out and gave them a good fresh water under the faucet scrub with a brush and removed the gha and sure enough about a week later the dreded gha was coming back on it also. Will you please send me a picture of your bi-color angel? Also, where did you get it at? Thanks again for trying to help me out.
