Future Seahorse tank

I worked on it a little today. Definately still have a long way to go but it's a start. Most of my really nice algaes are in with the babies and will stay there until the babies get bigger. I did order some really cool algaes from inland aquatics that will be here Tuesday. Anyway, here it is at the moment. It's a 60 gallon cube.

Thanks! It does have a lot of rock. I really wanted it open with only a little rock but you see how that turned out. This tank is an aquascaping nightmare no doubt. I have had all the rock in and out about three times now. I may pull it out again and give it another shot.

It's 2 different kinds. It's red gracilaria and I believe the other one is Rhodymenia (aka red hand algae) but Im not sure to be honest. Whatever it is it is really pretty and grows fast. I'd be happy to send you some when it grows out a little in the new tank. I got it off ebay in a mixed grab bag from a guy called zoocircus. I think he may have got booted off ebay though.

Thanks
Angela

Check out my awesome find! This is a huge piece of codium algae. It's about 12" by 10" and has a cool hitch hiker algae attached too.

Purdy! I thought I'd lost mine (That is the one that mimics a poisonous sponge, right?) but when I was pruning the fast growers back to give to people at the meeting yesterday, found it buried under all that growth, alive and happily chugging along...

Glad you found it! Yes it's the one that mimics a poisonous sponge. I like codium and it does well for me. This new stuff is quite different from the first codium I bought from exotic aquatics though. It's VERY spongy and feels like rubber. I love it! Great part is the huge piece only cost me $14. I'm really starting to like this marine planted tank business. Heck of a lot cheaper thats for sure. I think we need a marine plants and macroalgae forum (hint hint).

Thanks for the compliment Serk

We do, don't we? I'm having tons of fun with macroalgae, at least it hasn't died. Maybe I'm just not ready for a coral commitment.

Jaguar:
I have lots of different macros I would be glad to share with you for your dwarf tank. There just aren't many people interested in planted marine tanks I guess. I love reef tanks but the planted tanks really have caught my interest. RC has a marine plants and macroalgae forum that is pretty active if you haven't seen it yet.

Angela;

I too enjoy the planted saltwater/seahorse tanks. I could never get my 30 gallon FW planted hex tank looking good but macros I can grow! Just a warning to be sure to be ruthless about the pruning. The peltata I said I had went sexual on my yesterday - I noticed a bit of white on it the day before,and snipped it off but sadly yesterday morning the whole thing was limp and I had to pitch it.

Moral: If it looks odd, remove it before it does go sexual. And make sure you divide everything so if you loose some, perhaps you can save some. My seahorses looked pretty stresses (this was in a 12 gallon growout) but after a waterchange, I think we have things under control. I will do a massive pruning after tax season is over because I know if the caulerpa (razor and feather) ever go sexual, the tank would be toast!

Carolyn:
I am still debating whether to put any type of caulerpa in the tank. I am filling it up pretty fast with less aggressive algaes so I may skip the caulerpas all together because of their nasty habits although I think feather caulerpa is beautiful. I have had feather and grape go sexual on me before.

Here's a pic of the yellow gracilaria. It's very pretty and I think horses would like it.

New pics. It's starting to fill up. I ordered some cool macros from inlandaquatics that will be here friday and I want to keep track of how much difference the CO2 makes.

If you're talking about codium toylori, then it may need to be in a sea horse tank.. heh. Both emerald mithrax and sally lightfoot will actually eat it. Mine from the group buy was slowly eaten and is now gone.

Angela;

Where did you get the yellow gracillaria from? And the codium. Each day your tank looks better and better...

Carolyn

Both came from ebay. The members name is chellssnails. She's new to ebay so needs some business. Thanks for the compliment. I like the tank a lot. Scared to death to put anything in it, but still like it. I don't know why Im scared to put anything in it but I am. I thought about buying a couple of erectus adults but I'm so afraid of loosing them that I haven't.

You could always sell me a batch of erectus fry :D Do you live in the Gainesville that is about 90 miles west of me on hwy 82?
