Frogspawn

This weekend I went up to the Bedford POR and was able to get 7 heads of Frogspawn for $30 plus tax, thank you very much Chuck (if you're ever on here)!

The coral is doing well and looks awesome (just not with my camera phone pix), and I had a couple questions regarding this coral.

1) I have seen info regarding branching and non-branching types and have a question. Is the branching referring to the polyps themselves (I assume the polyps here are the green and pink coloration) or is it referring to the rock/bone type material the mouths are on that resembles a tree branch?

2) Do I need or would the coral thrive from direct feedings? I have read mixed reviews on this on RC so I am kinda stuck here.

The FS is on a tree-like branch that is bone colored, I am assuming I have the branching type because of this. If it is the branching variety I have, do I need to hide this skeleton from light or will it be ok in open water? For future prop/fragging efforts, how would I frag this for others?

I know these are all questions I should have asked while there, but Chuck was extremely busy and I had a general understanding of care and my tank is as ready as it can be.....and I fell victim to my slobbering eyes. I feed my fish the laguna farms food and I know that it contains food for corals in there, so I am also curious about direct feeding. I just want to make sure this coral thrives.

Thank you in advance for your help!

Frogspawn is usually an easy LPS to maintain...

1. It doesn't require direct feeding (If you do want to feed it use something small like cyclopeze, but from what your feeding your fish I'm sure it's getting plenty of food.)

2. It doesn't require a lot of flow (Usually puffs up more when it's not being hit by a direct flow)

3. Can survive in lower lighting (VHO and above is best).

4. The skelton can be attached to the rock or just poked in a whole (I recomend just placing it between two rocks or in a whole because you will want to move at one point or another).

5. Fragging the coral is somewhat easy to do because all it basically intels is cutting the base (Skeleton) between each head.

Thank you for your help! Yeah, right now its just 7 heads on a branch, I have it placed between rocks to keep it stable (I honestly thought that was a rock it came on  ) so I think I am good.

I just really hope my maroon doesn't see this as a host, she's kinda aggressive as it is and I only have a 45g tank so it could be cramped if she gets territorial.

the other day I had a piece of krill about the size of a pea fall onto mine and the thing just ate it up lol I was too slow to notice it before all the Polyps were all wrapped around it and the mouth just sucked it up .... he seemed to like it :p

This morning when I was feeding I noticed a chunk of krill (at least thats what I think it was in the food) fall onto the largest head and they do kinda wrap around it and then it dissappears. Pretty cool to see!

I also saw it extend its, I'm gonna say brown sweeper tentacles, and those things are incredibly long. I can see why they need to be kept away from neighboring corals.

Very fascinating animal!

Frogspawns are pretty cool!
Watch out for those sweepers.. i lost a whole acro colony because of them.

I need to come check out ur tank since its gettin stocked up now!
