fragging

i have a bunch of stuff on order and some rics that are splitting fast and i want to donate them back to the coop but i need some help fragging. is there a thread or video or someone that wants to come visit and help me out?

do rics split on their own? i have one with two middles but its still stuck together and the other one looks like its going to split soon.

They do split on there own,but you can speed up the process.

1.Use a coral scapel and cut across the ricordea between
the two eyes, but be sure NOT to cut the eyes.

2.If there is only one eye make a slice with the scapel
two or four ways up to the eye,but do NOT cut the eye.
When the new sections have grown a new eye you can
cut that piece away from the original eye by cutting
around that eye.

Rics are hardy and by cutting them they go into survival mode
and began to reproduce.

Also, I would not do the cutting while still in the tank if at all possible. The slime will start flowing and I've lost fish and other things to a softie poison slime event.

Fill a bowl with tank water and put the rock in there. Do your cutting and drop the cut off frags in a second bowl of tank water for rinsing.

What works for me with rics and mushrooms is to put the frags in a small bowl of gravel/rubble and wrap it with some netting. Set the bowl in low flow area and in a couple of days they should attach to some of the gravel. You can then glue the gravel to a disc, plug or larger rock. Frag for sale!

You can use a new, clean razor blade from home depot. Just don't get the kind that have oil on them.

If you want a real scalpel, you can find one under Coral Propagation from Boston Aquafarms on any of the big supply sites. I think it's about $15.

I use a xacto hobby knife. The curved blade seems to work better than the pointed straight blades but sometimes you need the point for getting in crevises of rocks.
