Frag Mount - Got Info Needed. Thanks Everyone.

I went to the frag swap today and picked up my first corals. I bought a red mushroom and some xenia from an individual that were not mounted. The individual told me that I could mount the corals using superglue.

However, they did not tell me it had to be the Gel. They didn't tell me it had to be SuperGlue brand either. So, I used "KrazyGlue" brand and it was the regular stuff.

I dried off the LR with a towel and dabbed the corals. Then put a drop of Krazyglue on the corals and attached it to the rock. I let the glue dry for maybe 3 - 5 minutes at most.

Is this going to kill the fish in my tank and maybe the two corals? My tank is a 55 gallon tank.

Any insight would be appreciated.

no need to run carbon I have put wet super glue in my tank hundreds of time you should be fine. No on the other hand not sure how well the shrooms and xenia usally slime up to much for super glue.

I have got both to attach by putting a small container in my tank so it have very slow flow and put the frag and some rubble in there an just let them mount themselves.

when i first started mounting corals in my tank i used regular superglue before i realized that i was supposed to use superglue gel. Nothing in my tank ever died and water quality did not change because of it. Steve is right your corals and tank should be just fine.

The superglue (Not brand, just type) gel is usually used just because the gel is much easier to mount corals with...

Cyanoacrylate glue (What Super/Krazy/Whatever glue is) is what we're after, brand doesn't really matter... Non-gel won't harm anything, it's just not nearly as easy to mount corals with...

And a small pitch for the club.....we had superglue glue gel and accelerator for $5 for the "kit"......and you can get it at the next meeting, too. (I think - Rick has it.)

But just to add to the list of "it won't hurt your tank", I add my vote, it doesn't hurt.

You can also rubberband - loosely - the mushrooms, or use a piece of bridal veil material to (loosely) wrap the rock, and keep it from floating away. Some have even used toothpicks through the center, wedged into a crevice in the rock.

they have a video on fragging mushrooms and how they mount them. xenia i just rubberband as they get to slimy to super glue. majority of your soft corals i just rubberband or zip tie to a piece of rubble. Alot easier in my opinion then messing with super glue
