Frag it?

This tissue damage on my acropora colony has appeared in the last two days. I'm not sure what has caused it. Am I better off to go ahead and frag this piece or hope that it might repair itself?

You might look for eggs on the white exposed portion you might have aefw

I went ahead and fragged it last night. I was afraid there would be nothing left by the time I got home from work today. It's the first time I've fragged a coral, so we'll see. Pampee, I didn't see any eggs but I didn't see any. It doesn't mean that they weren't there. This is the only acropora I have so they'll go hungry if these frags don't make it.

Actually, bottom up is usually much better than top down. Check your parameters. Especially alkalinity and salinity. I know it sounds basic, but it is probably something simple. Especially since it is bottom to top.

It's kind of hard to see from the pictures but the damage was in the middle. I tested yesterday and the only thing that is out of line are my nitrates which are at 20.

How long have you had this SPS? From the looks of the pictures this coral has been starving and deteriating for a long time. I would have to say at least 3-4 months. From your picture, it looks like this coral was very vibrant purple/blue at one time. I would definately frag it, but more important is to find the source of the issue. I would guess that your alkalinity is not right. I would check that and ensure its in check. If it is, then you may ant to look at your other parms. What kind of light do you have?

I bought this coral online and it's been in my tank since the 31st of October. It was/ is turquoise acropora. My alkalinity is around 9.5dkH.I am running a DIY led setup. 28 royal blues,28 neutral whates and 7 true violets. The deterioration began almost like a band around the middle. Any help would be appreciated.
