Fox Face Fish

I aquired a couple of good size fox Face fish yesterday for my 175. This is strange to me.. When the lights go out on my tank they appear to change colors almost as if they are distressed. I turned the lights back on and their color came right back. I can't seem to find out in my books anything that mentions color changes when lights are out, any thoughts? Last night i turned the acytine lamps back on for them. I do have moon lights in the tank. So, do i turn them off and the fish will adjust in abit?

Thanks,
Christian

Marine camo...
I use to have one. Every night, he'd go to his spot and "blotch up". Pretty cool actually.

Im not 100% sure, but i think you will have problems keeping 2. I had 1 in my 150. Liveaquaria says keep them single. YMMV

I have had my foxface for months now and he still does this every night. He goes to the exact same spot after lights out, puts all his fins out, and then spots up. He is hard to see when he does this, so I just assumed it was a sort of defense system for when he sleeps.

I've never kept a Fox Face, but color changing at night seems to be a recurring theme for reef-type fish. My Naso Tang would fade out quite a bit, my Yellow Tang fades and develops a streak running horizontally across his body, Mandarin's fade out in color and hide in the rockwork (Yeah, they look dead, it'll scare ya' the first time you see it!), same with my Hippo Blue Tang, wedges himself up in the rockwork and fades in color.

i've kept a foxface before and that was very common with him even four or five months after I bought him.

i'm curious. Have any of you ever been pricked by your fox face? I wonder how severe of a sting one gets from their poison.

We have never been pricked, but we always laugh at our foxface. He is the biggest fish in our tank, but is also the biggest wuss. It took him months before he would come out into the tank while we were standing next to it, but now he only tucks tail and hides when we are in the tank. He also lets himself be bullied by all the smaller fish in the tank, it is almost humorous to watch. It also makes him one of my favorites though, he is so very endearing.
